Contra Costa Times Editorial: Vote Yes on Measure D, Mt. Diablo school parcel tax
FOR YEARS now, the Mt. Diablo Unified School District resisted the temptation to seek voter backing for additional funding to augment money it receives from the state. While districts across the state have won approval for parcel taxes that often provide more than $100 a year from each property owner to help fund education, Mt. Diablo has made do without.
But the state cutbacks this year are too severe to expect Contra Costa's largest school district to continue operating with one hand tied behind its back. And, with little sign of fiscal daylight for the state, school funding is not likely to get much better anytime soon.
